Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said he supports the United Nations resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza "in principal" but said it was not clear how it would be implemented.

In an interview with the BBC's Jeremy Bowen he also said that Hamas would have to be brought into any peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel.
