Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport Ali Hamiye stated that Lebanon has received only "commitments" and no "firm guarantees" that Israel would not bomb Beirut International Airport (BIA).
BIA is located near the southern suburb of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold that is now targeted daily by Israeli strikes.
Lebanese authorities "want to keep the land, sea and air terminals operational, especially BIA," he told AFP on Tuesday.
"The enemy (Israel) spares neither civilians nor residential buildings; how could they offer guarantees?" he added.
Following "international contacts," Lebanon has obtained only "commitments," he clarified. "And there is a big difference between firm guarantees and commitments."
