Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Arrives in Lebanon Amid Tensions - This is Beirut

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a visit to Beirut on Friday, stated that he had come to express Iran’s support for Lebanon. He reported fruitful discussions with President Najib Mikati and Speaker Nabih Berri, during which they exchanged views on recent events.

In his press conference, Araghchi expressed confidence that the crimes of Israel would fail and that the Lebanese people would emerge victorious.

He clarified that Iran’s actions against Israel were defensive measures, in accordance with United Nations laws, targeting only military and security installations without harming civilians.

His presence in Beirut, despite the city being under bombardment, demonstrated Iran’s full commitment to Hezbollah. Lastly, he announced that consultations with other countries were ongoing to achieve a ceasefire, while respecting the rights of the Lebanese people.

During the meeting, the Iranian minister reaffirmed his country’s “commitment to Lebanon and its support in the face of Israeli aggression”.

Araghchi also emphasized the need to intensify collective diplomatic efforts at regional and global levels to “halt Israel’s aggression against Lebanon and its ongoing actions against Palestinians”.
