Syrian-Turkish Free Trade Zone Agreement Comes into Effect

Assistant Minister of Economy and Trade Ghassan Habash described the Syrian-Turkish Free Trade Zone Agreement as the fruit of bilateral relations between the two countries, saying the importance of this agreement springs from the increase in trade exchanges after freeing them from restrictions and burdens.

Dr. Habash added in a statement on Monday that the purpose of this agreement is to develop the economic cooperation and increase investment between Syria and Turkey, as the agreement stipulates full exemption of the exported Syrian products to Turkey from customs fees starting from the first day of putting this agreement into effect.

For his part, Chairman of the Syrian-Turkish Businessmen Council Baha al-Din Hassan emphasized the necessity of utilizing the features of this agreement to improve the Syrian product to enter the European markets through the Turkish gate in addition to exploring long-term strategic projects to be established with the participation of Turkish investors in governmental and private sectors.

Chairman of Syrian Federation of Chambers of Commerce Rateb al-Shallah underlined that Syria is looking through this agreement for strengthening its foreign relations and create joint projects to constitute a strong productive ground capable of entering and compete in other countries.

Turkish General Consul in Aleppo Kamal Ayden stressed that the Free Trade Zone Agreement will open new prospects of joint investments among Syrian-Turkish businessmen in addition to the possibility of their entering together the international markets.
