Speaker of the People's Assembly Mahmoud al-Abrash on Tuesday conferred with the Turkish Speaker of the Parliament Bulent Arinc on means of enhancing the advanced parliamentary relations between the two Parliaments to go along with the advanced relations between Syria and Turkey.
Abrash and Arinc headed a meeting that included members of the Syrian Parliamentary delegation and a number of Turkish MPs, where they exchanged viewpoints on means of reactivating the parliamentary relations between both countries.Later, al-Abrash and Arinc signed a memo of understanding on cooperation between both parliaments.
Following the meeting, Speaker of the People's Assembly said this visit comes in the framework of a number of visits which aim at deepening the advanced relations between the two countries, referring to the historical visit of President Bashar al-Assad to Turkey at the beginning of this year.Abrash stressed the two countries' stances are identical on a number of issues including the situation in Iraq and the occupied Palestinian lands.He expressed Syria's appreciation over Turkey's stances concerning the weapons of mass destruction issue in the Middle East.
Arinc, for his part, said the friendly relations between Syria and Turkey are progressing, particularly after the visit of President Bashar al-Assad and the mutual official visits between the two sides.He added that the aim of the Memo of Understanding is to boost cooperation, describing the Syrian-Turkish relations as strong and deeply- rooted.
Earlier, al-Abrash and the accompanying delegation paid a visit to the tomb of the Founder of the Turkish State Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
