DAMASCUS, SYRIA (10:00 P.M.) – On May 9, after over a month of hiatus, Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) elite Tiger Forces division alongside with allied Army and pro-government paramilitary units restarted the large-scale military operation against the so-called “Islamic State” (IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS) in eastern Aleppo countryside.
After two weeks of violent clashes with IS jihadists, SAA and allies managed to seize 31 sites, including strategic Jirrah Airbase, several towns, a lot of villages and hills.
More than 3,000 IS militants have been reportedly killed or injured in the ongoing battle so far.
Jihadists also suffered heavy losses in terms of military equipment, installations and vehicles as Syrian Army destroyed:
– 19 IS tanks;
– 5 BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles;
– 11 VBIEDs, or simply, car bombs;
– 6 artillery pieces;
– 9 ammo storages;
– 2 communication centres;
– 61 bases and encampments.
