Former Progressive Socialist party leader Walid Jumblat has urged Hezbollah to keep the situation in the South under control, after Palestinian militants tried to infiltrate into Israel from Lebanon.
Hezbollah has to control the situation in the south more than any time before especially against infiltration attempts, Jubmlat said, warning against a "Jewish-Islamic conflict."
"The Palestinians are resisting the occupation, but I don't understand some Lebanese who want to 'destroy' Israel," he said, as he criticized a statement by Hezbollah MP Mohammad Raad.
"What Raad said is useless," Jumblat told MTV, vowing to talks to Hezbollah about the border situation.
Raad had said that "it is time for Israel to disappear."
Heavy Israeli strikes on south Lebanon killed three Hezbollah members Monday and "slightly wounded" a Lebanese officer, as tensions surged after Palestinian militants tried to infiltrate into Israel from Lebanon. Hezbollah retaliated by striking two Israeli barracks, "in an initial response."
Hezbollah, whose arch-foe is Israel, had earlier denied any involvement in the infiltration border clashes. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad group's armed wing, Al-Quds Brigades, claimed responsibility.
