President Joe Biden directed Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system and its supporting crew, marking the first deployment of US forces to Israel since the Hamas-led attacks of October 7, 2023.
Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Patrick Ryder confirmed the deployment on Sunday, clarifying that the THAAD system will be used to bolster Israel’s air defenses against the widening missile threat.
