(Zaman Al Wasl)- Well-informed sources revealed to Zaman al-Wasl that a regime air force battalion specialized in building airports in cooperation with civilian companies began work to restore the landing field and runways in T-4 military airbase east of Damascus.
The restoration work to the airport, which is situated between the cities of Homs and Palmyra, comes after the runway’s deterioration due to intense use during the last five years. Additionally, no prior restoration work was undertaken to fix the damage to the asphalt runways especially the beginning of the runway which is exposed to high temperatures, that can be in excess of 800 centigrade, as the warplanes activate additional engines during takeoff. The high temperatures released when flames are emitted from the warplane exhausts led to the disintegration of the runway’s cement floor.
The source indicated that the regime forces moved all battle ready airplanes, Sukhoi 22 M 4 and Sukhoi 24, officers, technical staff and pilots to al-Shayrat airbase prior to the start of the maintenance work. The source indicated that the maintenance work will take less than one month as per the regime air force command order because of the heavy pressure on al-Shayrat airport.
