One Hezbollah fighter and an unknown number of Syrian rebels were killed in clashes early Sunday along the Lebanese-Syrian border after rebels crossed into Lebanese territory, Al-Akhbar's correspondent in the Bekaa reported.
The corespondent said that clashes broke out around 2:00 am after a Hezbollah patrol in the northeastern Jameela Valley region caught a contingent of Syrian rebel forces that had transgressed the border.
Fifty-one-year-old Ali Daghem Fares was killed and a number of other Hezbollah fighters injured in the ensuing battle, which took place on the outskirts of the town of Nahle. The correspondent did not specify the number of Syrian casualties.
No more details of the incident were known.
Lebanon's border areas with Syria have become increasingly volatile since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict over two and half years ago with frequent clashes and shelling striking villages along the frontier.
