BEIRUT: Former Maronite Patriarch Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir is in stable condition, Bkirki spokesman Walid Ghayad said Thursday.
“Patriarch Beshara Rai received assurances from Sfeir’s doctor that his situation today is stable and that his response to treatment today was better than yesterday,” Ghayad told reporters in televised comments.
Sfeir was in a critical condition Wednesday evening after suffering from a chest infection and being admitted to Hotel Dieu Hospital 10 days ago, according to his doctor.
Sfeir, who would turn 99 next week, is a critic of the Syrian regime and Hezbollah.
