TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian foreign ministry
official underlined the ministry's determination to pursue the fate of the
Iranian nationals who have recently been kidnapped in Syria and secure their
freedom.
The Iranian embassy is in constant contact with Syrian officials and is pursuing
the immediate release of the abductees, Director of Foreign Ministry Department
for Iranian Expatriates' Affairs Hamid Reza Shakeri Niyasar said on Thursday.
He called on Iranians to refrain from making individual pilgrimages to Syria.
Shakeri also urged Iranian nationals to travel to Syria as part of tours supervised by Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.
He advised Iranian nationals to avoid making trips to Syria by land.
The remarks by the Iranian official came a day after terrorists in Syria kidnapped 11 Iranian pilgrims in an area between the Central city of Hama and the capital, Damascus.
Last Thursday, a group of gunmen in Syria kidnapped 11 Iranian pilgrims traveling by road from Turkey to Damascus.
The gunmen stopped a bus with 49 Iranians after it left the town of Halab on January 26. The gunmen abducted 11 young men from the group but let go the other passengers, who included women, elderly men and three children.
Yet, bandits later attacked the rest of the group, stealing their money and valuables.
On December 21, seven Iranian engineers building a power plant in central Syria were kidnapped. They have not yet been released...
