Over 200,000 people killed in Syrian conflict so far — SOHR

AMMAN, Feb 7 (KUNA) — The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has documented death of 210,060 people since eruption of the Syrian revolution on 15 March 2011 till 5 February 2015.


In a detailed statement issued Saturday, the SOHR pointed out that the death tally included 100,973 civilians, including 10664 children and 6783 women.



“We in the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights estimates the real number of non-Syrian casualties from the IS, al-Nusra Front, Islamic factions, Jund Al-Aqsa battalion, Junoud al-Sham, al-Katiba al-Khadra’, Jund al-Sham, rebel battalions, regular forces and pro-regime militants to be approximately 85,000 more than the documented number due to the extreme discretion by all sides on the human losses caused by the conflict, the difficulty of communication in Syria, and the difficulties to know identify the fate of 40,000 detainees,” reads the statement.



It noted that mentioned numbers do not include more than 20000 detainees in regime prisons and thousands of those who disappeared during regime raids and massacres.



“It does not include more than 7000 regular soldiers and pro-regime militants and hundreds of regime supporters captured by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Islamic fighters, Al-Nusra front, rebel and Islamic battalions on charge of dealing with the regime,” it added.



SOHR also estimated that over 1.5 million Syrian civilians were seriously wounded or suffered from permanent disabilities, More than half of the Syrian people have been displaced, in addition to destroying the infrastructure of the country and the public and private properties during the past 47 months.
It urged the international community do all in power to put an end to the ongoing atrocities in Syria.
