BEIRUT: A decision to move former Information Minister Michel Samaha, who is being tried on terror charges, from his prison cell to a hospital has been cancelled due to a threat to assassinate him, local newspaper Al-Joumhouria said Monday.
The report, citing security sources, said Samaha’s transfer request was approved by the military prosecutor, but was soon revoked after authorities were tipped off about the possible “liquidation” of Samaha, given the vital information in his possession and the Syrian regime’s role in the alleged terror plots.
