MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. Russia does not plan to deploy a new military base on the territory of Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday.
"There are no plans to deploy new Russian military bases on the territory of Syria," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Under the Russian-Turkish accords of December 30, 2016, Russia’s Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Sides is exercising round-the-clock monitoring of the ceasefire, the Defense Ministry said.
"In order to prevent ceasefire breaches, one of the sections of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Sides has been located in the Aleppo province near the settlement of Afrin in the area of contact of Kurdish militia forces and formations of the Free Syrian Army controlled by the Turkish side," the Defense Ministry said.
