BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:50 P.M.) – Russia will not distance itself from Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, despite the Trump regime’s recent demands, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters during a press conference on Wednesday.
Peskov asserted that Russia’s primary objective in Syria is to defeat the Islamic State (ISIL) and other terrorist groups, while also searching for a diplomatic settlement to end the six year long conflict.
“We believe that posing a question on the need to distance from Assad, without mentioning two major goals, are short-sighted,” Peskov said.
