Electricite du Liban in a statement on Friday ordered its employees to come back to work next week, promising that police would protect them from striking workers who have blocked access to the company's branches across Lebanon.
"Security forces will deploy to EDL centers, including the central building and all its departments on Monday morning ... to secure entry and exit of [customers and workers] and protect them inside the buildings," the state-run company said a statement carried by Lebanon's National News Agency.
Most of EDL's 1,391 part-time technical and administrative workers went on strike last week to protest the announcement that only 897 of them would be promoted to full-time positions in what they regarded as a violation of a law passed in April.
