BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:20 A.M.) – The largest rebel coalition has been formed in northern Syria this week, following the Syrian opposition’s defeat in the southern region of the country.
According to a joint statement released by the new coalition, Jabhat Tahrir Souriya (Ahrar Al-Sham and Nouriddeen Al-Zinki movements) is merging with Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham, Jaysh al-Ahrar, and Jabhat Al-Sham to form the “National Liberation Front” (NLF).
The National Liberation Front will be under one command and they will be advised by the Turkish military.
According to a pro-government source, this move by the rebel forces comes after a lengthy discussion between Turkey and Russia at the recent round of peace talks in Sochi.
The source said that Turkey and Russia are making it a top priority to fight the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and their allies in the Idlib.
