MOSCOW, (SANA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday said that Moscow hopes that the Syrian opposition's upcoming meetings will support the agreement between Russia and the United States regarding Syria.
In a statement, Lavrov said that it's known that the Syrian opposition will hold a meeting in Istanbul, and that there will be a meeting in Madrid organized by the opposition inside Syria, primarily the National Coordination Body.
Lavrov stressed the need for participants in the meetings to voice clear support for the Russian-US initiative for implementing the Geneva Communique.
Lavrov called on his U.S. counterpart to use all means to make the Syrian opposition specify its stance on the upcoming Geneva conference, adding that the Syrian Government has announced its stance positively, but the opposition has not yet unified its voice.
Russia and the US recently agreed to support a political solution in Syria by organizing an international conference to develop the Geneva Communique issued in June 2012.
