BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:00 P.M.) – The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a powerful counter-attack this past weekend to retake the Hayyan Gas Fields and expand their presence around the western countryside of Palmyra.
ISIS began the assault almost immediately after they conceded the Hayyan Gas Fields over to the Syrian Arab Army; they would attack the latter’s defenses from two different flanks around the gas company area.
Unable to hold their ground, the Syrian Arab Army’s 18th Tank Division was forced to withdraw from the Hayyan Gas Fields in order to avoid suffering anymore casualties at the hands of the swarming Islamic State terrorists.
