BEIRUT: The French Embassy Saturday emphasized its confidence in Lebanon’s ability to reform and tackle future challenges, denying a report by a local daily claiming that a French official had called the country “irreparable.”
In a statement, the embassy denied the accuracy of quotes attributed to Ambassador Pierre Duquesne, France’s interministerial delegate in charge of Mediterranean affairs, in an article published Saturday by Al-Akhbar.
The daily quoted Duquense as saying that Lebanon was “irreparable,” a comment the embassy statement said was “distorted and taken out of context.”
