BEIRUT: Efforts to hammer out a new electoral law to guide the next general poll appear to be serious this time, Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea said, stressing that Speaker Nabih Berri is more than determined to reach the long-aspired legislation.
“This time the discussion will not be just for the sake of discussion, as evidenced by the fact that a one-month deadline was fixed for achieving agreement, otherwise the draft will be submitted to voting by the Parliament Secretariat,” Geagea said in comments published Monday in Al-Joumhouria newspaper.
Geagea argued that a “clear road map with clear deadlines” existed in the fresh bid to reach a new electoral law compared to previous attempts.
