The United States has delivered $50 million worth of military assistance to the Lebanese army to help it battle against jihadist extremists near the border with Syria.
U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard told reporters at Beirut's port that the latest assistance is in "an entire ship full of military equipment."
A U.S. Embassy statement said the shipment includes 50 armored Humvees, 40 Howitzers, 50 MK-19 grenade launchers, and hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition including small, medium, and heavy artillery rounds.
“This latest shipment demonstrates America’s sustained commitment to providing the LAF with the support it needs as it continues to bravely defend the Lebanese people and territory in the face of extremist threats,” the Embassy said.
