Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil said on Tuesday that the Lebanese won't allow divisions to sow discord among them and that the crisis that emerged in the wake of PM Saad Hariri's resignation can be turned into an opportunity for national unity.
“We can turn this crisis into an opportunity. Today, we are all losers in what happened, but we will emerge from the crisis,” said Bassil after holding talks with Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan at Dar al-Fatwa.
“The only solution is to stay involved,” stated Bassil, adding “The Lebanese will not allow division to be sown among us. We all want stability and peace. Whatever we attain by understanding is an achievement.”
Hariri announced his shock resignation on Saturday in a broadcast from the Saudi capital, decrying what he called the "grip" of Hizbullah and Iran on Lebanon. He also said he feared for his life.
