Syrian security forces have killed about 200 insurgents in clashes near the capital, Damascus.
The Syrian army has inflicted heavy losses on the foreign-sponsored insurgents over the past several days.
Many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil that began in Syria in March 2011.
On Friday, five members of the security forces were killed in a bomb attack carried out in the Ruknuddin district of Damascus.
A car bombing was also carried out in the western neighborhood of Mezzeh in the capital on the same day. The attack left no casualties.
The terrorist Free Syrian Army recently threatened to attack the airports of Damascus and the northwestern city of Aleppo. It said in a statement that the airports “will be considered legitimate military targets as of September 10.”
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in an interview with al-Dunia TV channel, aired on August 28, that the “situation on the ground is better but we have not yet won -- this will take more time.”
