Tehran: NAM Summit Seeks to Implement the Iranian Initiative on the Crisis in Syria- SANA


TEHRAN, (SANA)-Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hussein Amir Abdullahian announced that the Non-Aligned Movement's Summit in Tehran seeks to reach an outcome regarding the crisis in Syria and implements Tehran initiative aiming at halting violence in the country.
 
"The initiative includes the announcement of a truce for three months during which negotiations between the opposition and representatives of the governments will be held in order to achieve the Syrian people's demands," Abdullahian said in a statement broadcast by al-Alam TV.
 
Mehmanparast: Most Important Outcomes of NAM will be Rejecting Foreign Intervention
Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Ramin Mehmanparast underlined that a number of the countries which participate in NAM Summit believe that the most important resolutions to the crisis in Syria are represented by halting violence, stopping the foreign intervention and putting an end to the flow of weapons and money to prevail security and stability in Syria.
 
"The most important items expected to be issued at the final statement of NAM Summit is rejecting the foreign interference in Syria, condemning the acts of killing and stressing the 6 items of the plan of the UN former envoy to Syria Kofi Annan," Mehmanparast said in a speech to al-Manar TV broadcast today.
 
He hoped that Lakhdar Brahimi will continue what Annan has sought for and the other states will offer facilitations to make his mission a success.
 
Salehi: Need for an Opportunity of Dialogue to Resolve Crisis in Syria
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Tuesday said that the Foreign Ministers who take part in the NAM meeting of Tehran presented different viewpoints to resolve the crisis in Syria, underlining the importance of availing an opportunity for dialogue between the Syrian government and the national opposition without any foreign intervention.
"The foreign ministers gave special importance for the crisis in Syria and proposed several viewpoints in this domain… the best way to end the war on Syria is to facilitate conducting a dialogue between the opposition and the Syrian government," Salehi said in a statement.
 
He added that discussions regarding the crisis in Syria are still available at the meeting of NAM foreign Ministers, considering that if the regional countries and international organizations were able to facilitate dialogue between the opposition and the Syrian government, it would be useful and effective.
